Food is extremely important along the trail.  Whether it’s motivation, enjoyment, or just energy, getting food right can make or break a trip.  This page tracks food I’ve tried along the trail with my little ones.  We try to eat healthy, but are often held back by typical backpacking food.  I try to create my own when possible.

Breakfast

Peanut Butter Granola Banana Rollup

Sandwich Thins with PB&J: easy breakfast without firing up the stove.  These Sandwich Thins are 100% whole wheat, providing a good whole grain option without worrying about smashing them like regular bread.

Dinner

Risotto with Chicken by Backpacker’s Pantry: When one of these remained for lunch after serving it for dinner the night before, we had fights about who got to eat it.  My son even said we should buy this for dinner at home (ok, that was a bit of a stretch)!  This will be my go-to option when I can’t make my own.

Dessert

Dark chocolate bar
