Over the past few trips, I’ve noticed my Jetboil Flash has not been igniting well with the integral piezo igniter. At first, it just took an extra press, but soon it was to the point where I needed to use my lighter to get it fired up. The stove is still functional without the igniter, but I really loved having it right there.
In my case, the problem was with some failed insulation on the igniter wire as it enters the ceramic insulator tube. Check out the video below for the failure in action:
The stove is outside the warranty period, so that is not an option for me. One option readily available is to replace the whole burner assembly for $50 from Jetboil, because the igniter assembly is not a serviceable part. But I’m not a huge fan of throwing away a functioning burner just because the on-board spark isn’t working; a lighter is with me on every trip anyway.
UPDATE RAVE: Jetboil has offered to replace the igniter as a one-time courtesy, so rave to Jetboil customer service!
